Piotr Nowicki
pianist, graduated from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. His main artistic activity is focused on the XX and XXI century contemporary music that he performs as a soloist and chamber musician. Since 1995 he has been co-creating a duo with percussionist Paweł Nowicki and since 2002 has been a member and co-creator of Kwartludium ensemble, specialising in the performance of the newest music. The ensembles gave many performances including world premieres on a number of prestigious contemporary music festivals i.e.: “Warsaw Autumn”, Unsound in New York, Beijing Modern Music Festival, Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival, Loop Festival in Brussels, C3 in Berlin, Ensemble Europa in Köln, Klang in Copenhagen, Svensk Musikvår in Stockholm, Nordic Music Days in Helsinki, Arena Festival in Riga, Nuova Musiche Festival in Palermo, Jemp Festival in Istanbul, Contrasts in Lviv, Sacrum Profanum in Kraków, Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław, Codes in Lublin, Musica Moderna in Łódź, Audio Art Festival in Kraków, Ad Libitum in Warsaw, Days of New Music Festival in Gdańsk.
His artistic output comprises recordings for such record labels as Dux, Requiem Records, Bôłt Records, Touch and Denovali Records as well as Polish Radio, TVP Kultura, Polmic, WDR 3 and Deutschlandfunk. He performed in USA, Australia, China, South Korea, Georgia, Turkey, Israel, and in most European countries.
In 2023 he was awarded the title of professor in musical arts. Currently employed at the Gdańsk Music Academy where he is a lecturer on Instrumental and Vocal-Acting Departments. Holder of scholarships of the Marshal of Pomorskie Province, the Mayor of the city of Gdańsk and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Piotr Nowicki is the founder and the chairman of the Foundation for New Music Kwartludium working for the promotion of contemporary music in Poland and abroad.
