Piotr Nowicki

Piotr Nowicki, pianist, graduated from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. His main artistic activity is focused on the XX and XXI century contemporary music that he performs as a soloist and chamber musician.  Since 2002 he has been a member and co-creator of Kwartludium ensemble, specialising in the performance of the newest music.
He took performed, inter alia, at the following festivals: International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn”, Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival in Łódź, Unsound in New York, Beijing Modern Music Festival, Loop Festival in Brussels, C3 in Berlin, Ensemble Europa in Köln, Open Form Festival in Copenhagen, Nordic Music Days in Helsinki, Nuova Musiche Festival in Palermo, Jemp Festival in Istanbul, Contrasts in Lviv, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Festival in Kraków, Musica Polonica Nova in Wrocław, Codes in Lublin, Musica Moderna in Łódź, Laboratory of Contemporary Music in Warsaw, Audio Art Festival in Kraków, Ad Libitum in Warsaw,  Days of New Music Festival in Gdańsk, and Komeda Jazz Festival in Słupsk.

Also, in the years 2003-2013, he was a member of the Polish-German European Workshop for Contemporary Music group appointed by the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn” and the German Music Council. The ensemble under the direction of a renowned German conductor, Rudiger Bohn, gave performances on a number of prestigious contemporary music festivals in Poland, Germany and Ukraine, presenting works regarded as classic 20th century avant-garde, as well as the newest ones, specially commissioned for the group.

Furthermore, along with Karolina Piątkowska-Nowicka (violin) he perform chamber music repertoire, encompassing works from classical music to contemporary pieces. The duet gave many recitals, in Poland and abroad.

His artistic output comprises recordings for such record labels as Dux, Bôłt Records, Requiem Records, Denovali Records, Tuch, as well as Polish Radio, TVP Kultura, Polmic, WDR 3, Deutschlandfunk and Klangnetz e.V.

He performed in USA, Australia, South Korea, China, Israel, Great Britain, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Estonia.

In 2015 he was awarded a postdoctoral degree in musical arts (with specialisation in piano) at the Gdańsk Music Academy where he works as a professor on Instrumental and Vocal-Acting Departments.

Holder of scholarships of the Marshal of Pomorskie Province, the Mayor of the city of Gdańsk and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Piotr Nowicki is the founder and the chairman of the Foundation for New Music Kwartludium.
